WORTHLESS OR PRICELESS?

In one of her books author Marianne Williamson wrote the following:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.  We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’  Actually, who are you not to be?  You are a child of God.  Your playing small does not serve the world….. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.  It’s not just in some of us;  it’s in everyone.  And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.  As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

WORTHLESS is a state of zero value and PRICELESS is a state in which value is infinitely more than can be quantified and/or determined.  We were created to be PRICELESS, but so often we settle for price tags assigned to us by the society we find ourselves in.  We allow schools, workplaces, churches, family, friends, etc. to determine our value.  Sadly, WORTHLESS is most definitely a value which gets assigned to all of us at one point or another, and heartbreakingly, most of us simply accept it.  We allow an imperfect world to peg our value anywhere between WORTHLESS and VALUABLE, but never PRICELESS as ordained by our perfect God.  We are deceived into believing that our value is a variable and it becomes NORMAL to accept the lie.

Someone once said that NORMAL is a setting on a hair dryer, it is somewhere between HIGH and LOW.  I despise the use of the word NORMAL to describe any aspect of any human being, since every single one of us was created in the image of our Divine Creator.  Nothing about any of us can ever just be NORMAL!  If we truly understand that we are breathtakingly unique, created in the image of the Creator and Ruler of the universe to be extraordinary and phenomenally awesome, then NORMAL can never be used to describe any aspect of our beings!!!

However, we are often in environments where PRICELESS is not a recognised value.  It is up to us to NOT conform and relinquish our value.  I would like to use the analogy of a giant puzzle to illustrate.  God is the Artist of a beautiful masterpiece puzzle picture and each of us, the equal-sized pieces.  Each piece is unique and it slots into a unique slot.  If you find yourself in an environment with a puzzle where you don’t fit, change the environment and if you are unable to do so, avoid being cut or nailed into the wrong puzzle.

My puzzle piece forms part of the torch of the Statue of Liberty.  I was essentially WORTHLESS when nailed to a puzzle of the Taj Mahal and equally as WORTHLESS when cut and forced it into a puzzle of the Burj Khalifa.  It has taken 21 long years, but I have found a puzzle of New York City and I now fit, impeccably, where I belong and I am PRICELESS!  How about you?

PS:  The puzzle analogy is geographically independent from the specific details of my life.  I have found the puzzle where I belong in Bloemfontein, forgotten capital of South Africa.
